Common Hair Problems – What You Can Do About Them?

Posted on August 29th, 2010 in Blow Dryer by blowdryer  Tagged ,

A bad hair day usually means one thing-ugly and unsightly hair. But what most people do not know is that a wide variety of reasons can be the cause of one’s bad hair day. There are just so many hair problems that can make your tresses look less than perfect.

In order for you to cope effectively to a bad hair day, here are some of the common hair problems that you should know about and what you can do about them:

1. Lack of body

Hair that looks limp and lifeless-this is a common problem that many of us experience at least once in our lives. Lack of body can lead to more problems such as less elasticity, less strength and less flexibility.

To resolve this, try staying away from hair sprays and other hair products that can weigh your hair down and make it look flat. Instead, wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner that will give body and volume to it. You can also opt for a hair product that has a pH level of 4.5 to 5.5 because this contains proteins that can give luster and life to your flat hair.

Styling your hair with a blow dryer can also do wonders for your hair that has no body. Turn your head upside down, brush your hair outwards while pointing your blow dryer on your hair. Return to normal position and start styling your volumized hair.

2. Dandruff

This hair problem is caused by a chemical reaction in the body that increases normal shedding of dead cells. The chemical reaction can be triggered by dietary deficiency, stress, wrong use of hair produces, and hormonal change.

To minimize your dandruff problem, stay away from fatty foods, animal fats, fried dishes, nuts, avocado, dairy products and those that have refined sugars in it. Use a gentle shampoo that has tear tree oil or rosemary oil. Massage your scalp gently to encourage blood nourishment.

3. Split ends

Regular trimming is the best way to get rid of split ends. Aside from that, it is necessary to use a leave-in conditioner frequently and deep conditioner at least once a week to keep your hair healthy and moisturized.

Try to avoid using heat-generating appliances to avoid hair breakage. But if you cannot live without having to use your blow dryer or flat iron, opt for those that are of high quality such as FHI flat irons to minimize damage to the hair.

FHI flat irons have adjustable heat settings that allow you to set the temperature to the one that is safe for your fragile hair. It is advisable that you only heat your hair using a temperature of below 360 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Brittle hair

Brittle hair can be improved by avoiding the use of shampoos that contain alkaline or alcohol. It is also best that you protect your tresses from excessive heat especially exposure under strong sunlight because this can dry your hair and make it even more brittle.

When swimming, protect your hair from chlorine from swimming pools by wearing a swimming cap. Do not forget to rinse before and after going into a pool to minimize absorption of chlorine in your hair.

Coping with a bad hair day does not simply mean donning on a hat or wearing a wig to hide your ugly hair. The better way to resolve this is to investigate the real cause and to attend to it immediately.

Removing Unwanted Bumper Stickers

Posted on August 22nd, 2010 in Blow Dryer by blowdryer  Tagged , , ,

To begin you will need a car with a sticker worthy of removal. For the common bumper sticker removal process you will need these items:

A lubricant (oil or WD-40)
A blow-dryer with a hot setting
A plastic spatula or some fishing line
A soft, lint-free cloth
Rubbing alcohol or warm soapy water
Car polish and wax

Begin by wetting the bumper stickers with the lubricant. This may make the sticker slippery enough to slide off the bumper with just a little pulling. You can try using the spatula to separate the sticker from the bumper. Another option is to use the fishing line. Work the line under a corner of the sticker and then, using a rocking motion as you work under the sticker, separate the sticker from the bumper.

If the lubricant is not enough to loosen the sticker, try applying heat. Do this by using the hair dryer to blow on the sticker. The adhesive will melt and become more pliable. Work up one corner of the sticker and gently peel it away, applying continuous heat if needed. An alternative to the hair dryer is to leave the car outside on a hot day. I had a bumper sticker that simply wouldn’t stay on because I kept parking out in the sun.

Once the sticker has been removed it will probably leave behind a sticky residue. To remove the residue, use a lint-free cloth and rubbing alcohol. Rub the area until it feels smooth to the touch. Rubbing alcohol could be damaging to the car’s finish, so an alternative is to use warm soapy water. This step in the process will probably take patience and a lot of scrubbing. A gentle scraper (like a fingernail or the plastic spatula) can be used to remove large amounts of adhesive.

The location of the sticker may change some of your cleaning methods. If the sticker is on a window, you shouldn’t have to worry about using rubbing alcohol. If the sticker is on the body of the car, or if it is on a painted bumper, refinish the area with polish and wax once you are finished cleaning off the adhesive.

Your final step is to think twice before you put another sticker on your car. Some types of stickers are made to be easily removed; they are made of flexible, durable plastic that won’t become brittle. Other stickers have less adhesive while others are magnetic. By planning on how long you want the sticker on your car, you can prevent some of the headache of removal later.

Blow Dryer Cleaning

Posted on August 21st, 2010 in Blow Dryer by blowdryer  Tagged

You should take care of your blow dryer regularly otherwise it could turn into a fire hazard! You don’t want that! Now make sure to follow the steps below in order to clean and take care of that blow dryer.

Start by making sure that your blow dryer is unplugged. If your blow dryer is not unplugged while cleaning it, you should not even do it. There is an air-intake on your blow dryer which should be on the back of it; remove it. After you have removed it, lay it on a clean towel. Next, use a toothbrush and some alcohol to loosen up and remove any dirt that is built up on the air vent. Then, you should run the air vent under water to rinse off any of the remaining dirt or dust.

After, using a Q-tip and some alcohol, clean the areas of the blow dryer that you are able to reach and also see. If there are any stray hairs inside the blow dryer that you can see hanging, use a scissors and trim off all that is visible. Lastly, you should then let everything dry completely and then put the pieces back together. Once you have completed all these steps your blow dryer should now be ready for use! No more fire hazards to worry about anymore. Make sure to only clean this when needed, you don’t have to clean it every week, just make sure there is no build up of dust or dirt getting in the air-intake.
